Battlefield 6 Engineer Class Guide: Killing Armor Without Dying to It

Engineer in Battlefield 6 is the anti-vehicle class — rockets, mines, repair tool. How to flank a tank, where to place mines and how to survive the infantry fight.

Engineer exists to answer one question: what do we do about that tank? Everything else the class does — the repair tool, the SMGs, the CQB gadgets — hangs off that job. On vehicle maps, a team without Engineers just loses to a competent crew.

Your toolkit

  • Rocket launcher (RPG-7V2 and friends): your main answer to armor.
  • Anti-vehicle mines: area denial, not a trap you sit next to.
  • Anti-vehicle grenades: close-range finisher.
  • Repair tool: the most underrated item in the game. A repaired friendly tank wins fights it had no right to win.

Guns are SMGs and shotguns — see the SCW-10 for a close-range pick that fits the class. Full ranking in the weapon tier list.

Specializations

The paths split into anti-vehicle (more launcher capacity, more mines) and infantry/CQB. Take the anti-vehicle path whenever the enemy has a vehicle player who’s doing well; take the infantry path on infantry-only maps like Hagental Base or Cairo Bazaar, where your rockets have nothing to shoot.

Flanking a tank, properly

The mistake everyone makes is shooting a tank from the front while standing in the open. Here’s the version that works:

  1. Let it commit. A tank that’s already shooting at something else isn’t looking at you.
  2. Approach from the side or rear, using buildings, wrecks or terrain as cover the whole way.
  3. Rocket, then relocate immediately. Smoke or muzzle flash tells the crew exactly where you are; if you stay, the gunner kills you.
  4. Follow up with a second rocket from a new angle. Two hits from behind do far more than four into the front plate.
  5. If the tank starts reversing toward cover, let it go. A damaged tank that runs away is a win.

Mines: where to put them

Don’t scatter mines on the flag. Put them:

  • On the lanes armor has to use — bridges, gaps between buildings, crater entrances.
  • Near the enemy vehicle spawn exit on Breakthrough, where drivers are still accelerating.
  • Behind your own armor’s fallback route, so the thing chasing your tank has a bad day.

Mines also stay useful after you die, which is why they’re the single best “I’m losing” gadget in the game.

Repairing

Repair from a position where the tank is between you and the enemy, and get out when the hull takes a big hit — you can’t fix a tank that’s already dead. A two-person crew (driver plus Engineer hopping out between engagements) beats a lone driver every time. More on that in the tank guide.

The infantry half of the job

Engineers win building fights too. SMGs plus explosives means you can clear a room faster than anyone except a shotgun. Clear, then repair, then move — don’t sit in the building you just took waiting for the tank to come back.

When to switch

If the enemy team has no vehicles and never spawns any, you’re playing a worse Assault. Check the scoreboard, then check the classes guide for what your squad actually needs.
