Battlefield 6 Operation Firestorm Map Guide: The BF3 Oilfield Classic
Return to Battlefield 6's Operation Firestorm—the BF3 oilfield remake, its open lanes, vehicle warfare, key objectives, and attack-defense strategy.
Operation Firestorm is the legacy love-letter of the launch roster — a faithful rework of the beloved Battlefield 3 oilfield map. It’s wide, flat, and built for combined arms. If you like tanks, this is your church.
Mode fit
Built for large Conquest and Breakthrough. The open layout means vehicles aren’t optional — a team without armor or air gets run over. Read the Conquest & Breakthrough tips before you roll out.
Three layers of space
- Air: huge skies. Jets and attack helis dominate here; air superiority is almost a win condition. Bring MAA and stingers.
- Ground: long sightlines across the oilfield, with pump stations and structures as the only cover. Distance is the killer — pre-aim, don’t peek.
- Covered / interior: the installations and compounds are where infantry survives. Use them to break the open-field crossfire.
Key objectives
Flags cluster around the industrial structures — capturing a compound gives your team the only real cover in that sector. The central objectives are the most contested because they straddle the map’s lanes. Holding one compound lets you project fire across the open ground.
Vehicle lanes
This is a tank map, period. Run armor down the main avenues, use the structures as hull-down cover, and never cross open ground without an infantry screen. IFVs support the pushes; jets hammer armor from above. The vehicles guide and tank guide are essential reading.
Attacking
Don’t cross the field in the open — use the compound-to-compound leapfrog, with armor suppressing and infantry clearing each structure. Smoke crossings so the enemy armor can’t pre-aim your approach. Coordinate air support to knock out enemy tanks.
Defending
Hold the compounds, not the field. A defender in a structure with a mounted gun and an Engineer on the armor lane is brutal to dislodge. Pre-aim the open approaches and let attackers bleed crossing them.
For another wide vehicle map, see Mirak Valley. Infantry-only players should pivot to Empire State.
Class and loadout notes
As of Season 5, the safe default is Assault or Support for objective work, Engineer whenever armor is in play, and Recon where the sightlines favor marksmen. On vehicle maps force an Engineer into every squad; on infantry-only maps drop the repair habit and lean on Support revives. Build your gun with the attachment guide and confirm your role in the classes guide.
