Battlefield 6 Railway to Golmud Map Guide: The Biggest Map in the Game

Railway to Golmud is Battlefield 6's largest map — a Battlefield 4 remake in Tajikistan. Air space, armor lanes, the moving train and how to play the objectives.

Railway to Golmud landed in Season 3 (May 2026) as a rebuilt Golmud Railway from Battlefield 4, moved to Tajikistan. EA called it the biggest Battlefield 6 map on release — several square kilometers, playable area well beyond Mirak Valley, and the largest airspace of any BF6 multiplayer map. It’s the closest thing to old-school Battlefield the game has.

Mode fit

Conquest is the real experience here; the map is too big to work otherwise. Domination and Squad Deathmatch run on a much smaller slice around the ruined village, so if you only know those playlists you haven’t actually seen the map.

Three layers of space

  • Air: the headline. Jets and helicopters fight over more sky than anywhere else, and interrupting the enemy’s air is a genuine job, not a side quest. Check the jet guide and helicopter guide before you queue.
  • Ground: wide-open farmland and steppe between a ruined village and an industrial site. Armor roams; infantry that walks into open ground disappears.
  • Interior: village buildings and industrial structures. Limited, but they’re the only safe spaces for foot mobiles in the middle of the map.

There’s also a train that keeps running. Capture it and it advances toward the enemy HQ, which turns a rolling piece of cover into a moving objective.

Key objectives

Flags are spread far apart, so the rhythm is less “brawl over B” and more “who can rotate a squad fastest.” Losing two outer flags at once is normal and recoverable; losing the village plus the industrial site is not. Pick two neighbouring flags, hold them, and stop chasing the far side of the map.

Vehicle lanes

This is armor country. Tanks own the open ground, IFVs shuttle infantry between flags, and transport is the difference between a 20-minute match and a 40-minute one. Air is the counter — a decent jet or attack heli decides which team’s tanks survive. Engineers win this map; see the tank guide for how not to feed.

Attacking

Move with a vehicle or don’t move at all. Foot crossing between distant flags is how you donate tickets. Use the terrain folds and the village wrecks to break line of sight, cap the near flag, then regroup. Attacking the train is worth it when you have numbers — it pushes the frontline for you.

Defending

Don’t stack on the flag. Spread across the approaches, keep one player spotting, and hold the buildings near the cap rather than standing in a field. Because the map is huge, a defended flag with early warning beats a flag with four people on it.

Class and loadout notes

Bring long-range builds — Recon and Engineer are the two classes that do real work here, with Support for the spawn economy. Confirm your role in the classes guide. For another vehicle-heavy open map, see Operation Firestorm.
