Battlefield 6 Portal Guide: Community Experiences, Custom Lobbies and the XP Rules

How Battlefield 6 Portal works in Season 5 — Verified vs Custom experiences, bots, Custom Lobbies, spectator mode and what still earns full progression.

Portal is Battlefield 6’s creator sandbox — custom rulesets, community experiences and, as of Season 4, proper Custom Lobbies with a pre-match team screen. It is not the persistent server browser; that’s scheduled for the Frozen Aces update on 8 December 2026 as of the Season 5 roadmap.

Verified vs Custom: the distinction that matters

Verified Experiences start from official Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough and seasonal modes. You tweak player count, bots, map rotation, weapon locks and modifiers — you don’t write scripts. Look for BattlefieldOfficial or BFPortalOfficial as the creator.

Custom Experiences are the empty template plus the Portal Next SDK: logic blocks, custom maps, AI scripting, weird rules. Fun is allowed. Progression mostly isn’t.

XP: what you actually get

The launch-week bot farms are dead and they’re not coming back in the old form. Here’s the state of things:

  • Verified experiences: the same Career XP, Hardware XP and mission/assignment progress as a normal multiplayer match when EA says they apply.
  • Custom experiences: “Modified XP” — roughly, an increased match-completion award and little else.
  • Bots: EA brought them back to selected Verified Conquest, Breakthrough and Rush modes in November 2025. Rounds start once enough real players join, bots are capped, bot kills pay reduced XP, and player XP stays at full with challenges still completable.

So: Verified + humans = real progression. Verified + bot backfill = fine for weapon levels and annoying challenges. Custom + a wall of AI = entertainment, not a grind. Don’t burn Hardware XP boosters in there.

How to build and host

  1. Sign in at portal.battlefield.com with the same EA account you play on.
  2. Pick a Verified template or start Custom and use the logic blocks.
  3. Publish and wait for moderation — a few hours is normal when the queue is busy.
  4. Open it in-game from the main menu → Community, search by name, tag or experience code, and host with a password if you want a private room.

Custom Lobbies

Added in Season 4, these sit on top of Verified experiences: host one, turn Enable Lobby on, configure settings before you hit host (you can’t edit them after), then share the join code from Team Creation → Reveal Join Code. You can seat players into teams and squads, assign admins, and add spectators. This is how you run a community night without dumping twelve strangers into a loading screen.

Spectator mode exists for Custom Lobbies on Battle Royale Quads and Conquest, with map cameras, follow cams and a scoreboard — useful for tournaments and VODs.

What Portal is genuinely good for

  • Hardcore or closed-weapon versions of maps you already know.
  • Jet and heli practice without feeding tickets — see the jet guide.
  • Finishing awkward weapon challenges next to bot backfill; pair it with the attachment unlock guide.
  • Community events with a real pre-match lobby.

If you’re brand new, go play some Conquest first. Portal makes a lot more sense once you know why tickets move.
