Battlefield 6 SGX: The Starter SMG That Still Wins Every Room

The SGX is Battlefield 6's default SMG and still the number one pick inside buildings. Builds, range limits, hipfire setup and who it suits.

Every player starts with the SGX, and most veterans still keep it leveled. It’s been the top-ranked SMG in Battlefield 6 since launch and nothing in Season 5 has knocked it off. High damage, fast fire rate, and hipfire accuracy that turns any interior into your personal kill house.

The numbers that matter

  • 25 damage per round at 830 RPM. That’s heavy-hitting for an SMG, and it’s the reason the SGX wins trades that other SMGs lose.
  • 30-round base magazine, upgradeable to 36. At this fire rate you’ll feel every round, so the bigger mag is a real upgrade, not a luxury.
  • Damage falls off past mid range. The SGX is a room clearer. Stretch it down a street and you’ll lose to carbines and LMGs that don’t care.

Controlling it

The SGX is easy to use, which is not the same as aim-free:

  • Hipfire is your friend indoors, but only to about 10 meters. Past that, ADS — the gun is accurate enough to reward it.
  • Burst at mid range. Full-auto spray at 30 meters puts rounds in the ceiling.
  • Close the distance. The whole build is about getting inside the other guy’s effective range before he gets inside yours.

Attachment direction

You’ve got 100 points. Two ways to build it:

The room-clearer (recommended):

  • Muzzle: Compensated Brake. The SGX kicks more than you’d expect at 830 RPM; this is the fix.
  • Barrel: 8” Extended. A little bullet velocity goes a long way on a gun that dies at mid range.
  • Underbarrel: Compact Handstop or Slim Angled. Handling and control — pick based on whether you value sprint-to-fire or recoil.
  • Magazine: 36RND. Non-negotiable at this fire rate.
  • Ammunition: Soft Point. Headshot damage on a gun you’re already aiming at heads with.
  • Optic: OSA-7 1.00x plus a green laser for hipfire. Keep it simple.

The alternative: skip the extended barrel, run a suppressor and a lighter grip for pure flanking speed. You give up the mid-range edge and gain the ability to appear where nobody expects you.

Class pairing

Engineer is the classic home for SMGs — the mobility training paths fit, and your Repair Tool keeps you useful between fights. Support works if you’re resupplying a squad that holds interiors. Assault can run it on smaller maps where pushing is the whole job.

Who should run it

  • Aggressive objective players. If your idea of a good time is clearing a casino room on Vegas Strip, this is the gun.
  • Anyone on tight maps — Empire State, Saints Quarter, Cairo Bazaar.
  • New players. It’s forgiving, and leveling it teaches you the attachment system without punishing mistakes.

If you want a mid-range option instead, look at the SCW-10 for a slower, heavier hit or the B36A4 to contest longer lanes. Class context in the classes guide and Engineer guide.
