Reactor and External Components Guide – Match the Stats, Win the Build

How to pick reactors and external component sets in The First Descendant: attribute and skill-type matching, Optimization Conditions, and Hunter versus Slayer.

Reactors and external components are where most players leave damage on the table. Get the matching right and your build clicks; get it wrong and you are spinning your wheels. Here is the straight talk.

Reactors: Match Two Things

Every reactor has an Attribute (Fire, Chill, Toxic, Electric, or Non-Attribute) and a Skill Type (Singular, Fusion, Dimension, or Tech). Your Descendant’s skills are one of those types, and when the reactor’s Skill Type matches the Arche Type, your Skill Power goes up. Then there is the Optimization Condition – a stat threshold like “Skill Critical Hit Rate X%.” Hit it and you get the full bonus; miss it and you lose a chunk of value. Reactor drop locations rotate daily, so use the in-game reactor search on the map instead of guessing. Ultimate reactors push to Stage 5, and you can Option Enhance the rolls.

External Component Sets

Sets activate at two or four pieces. The workhorses:

  • Hunter (2pc): Skill Cooldown -4%.
  • Ascending Armory (2pc): Skill Cost -6.5%.
  • Slayer (4pc): big Skill Power boost but +15% Skill Cost and worse base HP – glass cannon.
  • Ballistic Tracker and others (Dimension Destroyer, Circulation) drop from Wall Crasher and lean crit or specific stats.

The safe, popular combo is 2pc Hunter plus 2pc Ascending: you get cooldown and cost relief while stacking three HP-based and one DEF-based pieces, so you stay alive. Slayer is for when you already have the survivability elsewhere.

Cores and Rolls

Every component now has a Core slot – drop Max HP and DEF cores into it. For selective stats, chase HP, DEF, Shield Recovery, and MP Recovery depending on the slot. This system feeds directly into endgame grinds like tfd-void-erosion-purge and tfd-wall-crasher, where every point of stats counts. New to gearing? tfd-modding-guide covers the socket and catalyst layer on top of this.
