The First Descendant Trigger Modules: How the Arche Trigger System Works

Trigger Modules in The First Descendant: how the Arche Trigger system works, what the slots cost, where modules drop, and which ones to prioritise.

Trigger Modules arrived with Season 3 and Axion Plains, and they’re the least understood piece of the build system. They don’t add stats — they add a second layer of triggers to your skills, and on the right Descendant they’re worth more than most regular modules.

Unlocking the system

The Arche Trigger system is its own progression track:

  • Complete the sub quest “Unlock Arche Trigger”, available from Mastery Rank 15.
  • Each Descendant then gets a Trigger Module slot, unlocked at Prime Hands, costing ten Crystallization Catalyst uses, one Energy Activator, Arche Tuning Level 40, one Refined Axium Crystal and 300,000 Kuiper Shards.

That’s a real investment per character — fund mains first (the gold and Kuiper guide helps). Don’t unlock it on a Descendant you’re still testing.

How they work

  • A Trigger Module fires when your Descendant uses a skill. Some trigger off skill tags — projectile, charge, continuous damage, ground DoT, global DoT, AoE, clash, healing, ally enhancement, supply — while others trigger on any skill use.
  • When a module is equipped, the triggering skill’s icon glows — at-a-glance confirmation of which skill is wired up.
  • Options roll in three tiers — Common, Rare and Ultimate — with the tier determined by the values you roll, not by where the module dropped.
  • They sit in a separate inventory from regular modules, can be dismantled, and cannot be enhanced or combined. Rerolling isn’t a thing; picking the right drop is.

Where they drop

  • Axion Plains missions and Operational Area bonus rewards — the bread and butter.
  • Wall Crasher, the hourly eight-player Colossus — one of the richest sources, see the Wall Crasher guide.
  • Dimensional Energy Stabilization Reward.
  • Trigger Module Loot L containers from Cradle of Evolution and Karel’s Mothership — drop rates boosted in the October 15, 2026 update, though the boosted numbers apply to the container, not any specific module inside.
  • Trigger Module Selection Box J, which covers 42 module types — the cleanest way to target a specific one.

Which ones matter

The priority rule: match the module’s tags to the skills your Descendant actually uses. A random Ultimate roll that never triggers is dead weight; a well-matched Common that fires constantly is build-defining. Check your skill tags first — the Arche tuning guide covers how tags fit together.

Notable modules worth knowing:

  • Power Beyond (Global / Ground DoT) — the flat Skill Power pick, a bossing staple for DoT Descendants.
  • Arche Leak (Continuous Damage) — MP-conversion damage for sustained skill spam.
  • Death by a Thousand Cuts (Projectile) — stack-based burst for projectile-heavy kits.
  • Gap in Time (AoE) — additional damage that scales inversely with cooldown reduction.
  • Particle Conversion Emitter (Ally Enhancement / Healing / Charging / Supply) — the support pick; buff allies to build a damage payoff.
  • Prepping in the Dark (new in October) — Ground DoT builds Gap, then Concealment during Gap grants Ambush Setup: Skill 4 cooldown down, Toxic Skill Power up. Strong on Concealment kits.

Inventory hygiene

The storage cap fills fast once Axion Plains opens. Dismantle low-value modules, sort by tags, and lock your best rolls so cleanup doesn’t eat them. For the rest of the build, the modding guide and Ancestors Modules guide pick up where this ends.
