Rocket League Blueprints Guide: Drops, Build Costs, and Which Ones Are Worth Building
Blueprints drop after online matches and cost Credits to build. Here's where they come from, roughly what each rarity costs, and how to decide whether a blueprint is worth it.
Blueprints replaced crates in 2019 and they’re still the most common “free” drop in the game. They’re also the most commonly wasted Credits, because people build things they never use. Let’s fix that.
What a blueprint is
A blueprint is a recipe for one specific cosmetic. It drops after online matches (casual, competitive, or Extra Modes — private and exhibition don’t count) and sits in your inventory unrevealed.
- Revealing is free. One click shows the item and its rarity.
- Building costs Credits. That’s the paid, optional step.
Blueprints don’t expire. Series rotate in and out of the drop pool, but what you’re holding stays yours.
What building costs
Costs are fixed by rarity, and painted or Special Edition versions cost more. Rough bands, as of Season 24:
- Rare: low hundreds of credits or less
- Very Rare: roughly double the Rare band
- Import: mid-hundreds — car bodies often live here
- Exotic: approaching a thousand
- Black Market: around two thousand credits
Painted versions cost more than unpainted, with Titanium White the most expensive paint in the game. Special Editions (Infinite, Holographic wheels) add another chunk. The build screen shows the exact number before you commit.
How to decide if it’s worth building
Three questions before you spend:
- Will I actually equip this? A topper you’ll wear twice is Credits set on fire.
- What would this cost elsewhere? Compare the build price to the Item Shop price for the same item. If the shop is similar or lower, wait for the rotation.
- Do I need the painted version? Unpainted often costs a fraction of the painted price, and looks fine. Don’t pay the Titanium White tax for a set you rarely use.
If all three answers are “no,” don’t build it. Trade it in instead.
Trade-in vs. build
Two exits for an unwanted blueprint:
- Trade-In: five revealed blueprints of the same rarity → one random blueprint of the next rarity up. Categories stay separate, and mixing series splits your odds. Full rules in the trading guide.
- Season 24’s Black Market Trade-In: three duplicate Black Market items can be exchanged for a new same-tier item or painted version.
Trade-in is a gamble; building is a known quantity. Chasing a specific item? Build the exact blueprint. Got junk? Feed it up the ladder.
Practical habits
- Reveal everything immediately. Free information, and you can’t decide on an unrevealed blueprint.
- Don’t build on a drip. Save for something you love — or for the Rocket Pass, which pays Credits back if you finish it.
- Duplicates are trade-up fuel. Five junk Rares are one shot at a Very Rare.
- Drops have a weekly cap. Play online matches regularly rather than hoarding sessions.
Bottom line: reveal everything, build only what you’ll equip, trade the rest up the ladder. Blueprints are free to get — the only expensive part is a bad build decision.
