Rocket League Dribbling, Flicks, Wall Play, and Ceiling Shots
A Rocket League ground dribble, flick, wall play, and ceiling shot tutorial collection with the exact reps to practice each mechanic.
Four mechanics, one throughline: keep the ball close, then punish. Here’s how each works and what to practice.
Ground Dribble
Drive under the ball and balance it on your hood. The trick is micro-adjusting your speed so the ball stays just in front of you — too fast and it rolls off, too slow and it drops. Practice this in Free Play for five minutes a day; it’s the foundation for everything below. The training routine points you at Dribbling Challenge #2 for structured reps.
The Flick
Once you can carry the ball, the flick is your scoring tool. While dribbling, jump, then flip (usually backward or to the side) to launch the ball off your roof toward goal. Time the flip so the ball is at the top of your car, not already rolling off. Dominus and Plank hitboxes make this feel easier thanks to their flat fronts — see the Dominus guide.
Wall Play
Take the ball up the wall on purpose. Drive the curve smoothly, and as you near the top, jump off while tilting back so you stay under the ball. From here you can either clear it or transition into an air dribble. The key beginner mistake is jumping too early and losing the ball to gravity — stay on the wall longer than feels natural.
Ceiling Shots
The top-tier finish. Drive up the wall, boost to the ceiling, carry the ball along the roof, then drop off and flip it down as you fall. Wait until you’re actually descending before you flip — flipping at the peak just launches the ball into the rafters. This is a Champion+ mechanic; don’t force it until your air control is solid.
Practice Order
Dribble → flick → wall → ceiling. Skip ahead and you’ll whiff constantly. The mechanics roadmap lays out the full rank-by-rank order, and the flip reset guide covers the air version of these touches.
One last thing: don’t try any of these in ranked until the dribble is automatic. Nothing loses a game faster than going for a ceiling shot from your own half and leaving the net wide open. Earn the flashy stuff in Free Play first, then bring it out when the moment is actually there.
