Rocket League Tournaments Guide: Brackets, Credits, Rewards, and How to Team Up
How Rocket League's in-game tournaments work: the daily 32-team brackets, Second Chance, Tournament Credits and cups, titles, quitting penalties, and finding a team that stays till the end.
Tournaments are the most underplayed mode in Rocket League. Free entry, daily brackets, cosmetics you can’t get anywhere else. Here’s how to enter one properly.
The basics
- Free to enter. No credits, no tickets, no cost of any kind.
- Daily schedule per region. Multiple time slots each day for 2v2, 3v3, and Extra Modes. Times vary by region — the Tournaments menu shows yours and is the source of truth.
- Play → Tournaments, pick your play window, and register up to about 15 minutes before start. You’ll get a notification when it begins.
- No limit on entries. Play as many as you want each week.
How the bracket works
- 32 teams, single elimination. One match per round.
- Semifinals and finals are best of three. Everything before is a single match.
- Matches cap at 11 minutes including kickoffs and replays. Tied at time? More shots wins. Shots also tied? Coin flip. (Yes, really. Don’t rely on it.)
- Skill-based seeding. Your tournament rank starts from your competitive rank, and mixed-rank parties enter at the highest-ranked member’s level — two Golds with a Diamond play a Diamond bracket. In 2v2, duo partners generally need to be within a few ranks of each other.
Second Chance
Lose in the first round (or show up late) and you drop into a Second Chance bracket starting about 15 minutes after the main event. You can even join it directly without playing the main bracket if you registered late. Credits earned are the same; the difference only shows up in weekly placement rankings. Lose in Second Chance and you’re done for that tournament.
Rewards
- Tournament Credits for a first-round win — the minimum. Deeper runs pay more, and higher-ranked tournaments pay more per win.
- Weekly top-3 placements are where the real credits are. Your best three results each week earn a bonus, resetting every Sunday. After your first three, only improvements pay out.
- Credits buy Cups, which grant tournament-exclusive items — wheels, decals, goal explosions — and can drop painted or certified.
- Titles for wins: one win gives a title for that tournament’s rank; three wins at a similar rank across a season upgrades it to a colored title.
- Tournament items can be fed into the trade-in system — see the trading guide.
The quitting rule (take this seriously)
Dropping out early — including leaving before the final results screen — is punished:
- 15-minute matchmaking ban plus a ban from the next tournament
- You forfeit everything earned in that tournament
- Repeat offenses escalate to 24-hour and even 7-day tournament bans
Finishing a tournament (win or elimination) reduces your penalty exposure. Your abandonment wrecks the bracket for teams that registered to play. If you enter, play it out.
How to team up
- Solo queue works — the game finds teammates, but you get no say in whether they finish the bracket.
- Full party of three is the move for 3v3 if you have reliable friends.
- Pick teammates who stay. A duo where one quits after a first-round loss leaves you short a player. Reliability beats rank.
- Mind your region. The tournament region is a separate setting (Settings → Gameplay), changeable only once every 24 hours and not within 24 hours of a tournament you’ve entered ending. Coordinate with teammates on the same region’s schedule.
Only 2v2 and 3v3 Soccar tournaments affect your tournament rank; Extra Modes brackets have no ranking consequences.
Why bother
It’s the best free-item pipeline once you’re past the weekly drop cap — see the free items guide. It’s also structured 3v3 practice against teams that actually try. For the team side, the 3v3 strategy guide and 2v2 guide cover the rotations that win brackets.
Bottom line: free entry, daily brackets, exclusive cosmetics, and titles — all for finishing what you start. Register, bring teammates who won’t quit, and never leave before the results screen.
