Lost Ark Advanced Honing Guide (T4)

How T4 Advanced Honing works: the 1-20 and 21-40 material tracks, tempering, Ancestor's Grace, and where to spend your support breaths.

Advanced Honing is where Arkesia’s biggest raw stat jumps come from — and where most gold disappears. Unlike normal honing, it uses a fixed progress bar instead of a dice roll, which makes it predictable but still pricey. Here is the T4 picture.

The material tracks

Each 10 levels needs a different raid-derived tempering material:

  • Levels 1–10: Agris’s Scale (Echidna Normal)
  • Levels 11–20: Alcaone’s Eye (Echidna Hard)
  • Levels 21–30: Thundercrack Horn (Mordum Normal)
  • Levels 31–40: Thunder Globe (Mordum Hard)

Alcaone’s Eye substitutes for Agris’s Scale at a 1:2 rate, and Thunder Globe substitutes for Thundercrack Horn the same way, so old stock isn’t wasted. Armor needs 12 materials to temper a 10-level band (24 for 21–40); weapons need 30 (60 for 21–40).

How progression works

Each attempt fills a progress bar; at 100 points the hone succeeds and the piece gains +1 item level, for a maximum of 20 item levels from the system. A single attempt can add 10, 20, or 40 progress, so unlucky runs still move you forward — nothing is pure waste. Every 5 Advanced Honing levels also grants stats equal to the next regular hone, so the power curve stays smooth.

Ancestor’s Grace

Every six attempts, the next try triggers Ancestor’s Grace with a random bonus: progress ×5, progress ×3, +30 progress and a Grace refresh, or +10 progress with no material cost on that attempt. When Grace is up, dump all your Solar materials — that is the efficient play.

What to push first

If your goal is damage, hone the weapon first; it scales your sheet hardest. If your goal is unlocking new content, keep pieces roughly even so you cross gate thresholds together. The 21–40 band is the most expensive sequence in the game, so save support breaths (Lava’s for weapons, Glacier’s for armor) for weapon pushes or a planned gate crossing rather than spreading them thin.

A quick efficiency note: support materials raise your odds of the bigger progress rolls, not the success itself, so use them where the expected value is real — a weapon push or a planned gate crossing — rather than drip-feeding them on armor you’ll replace soon. Watch the in-game panel for the live cost; static tables go stale fast after balance passes.

Pair this with the gear honing roadmap for the gate thresholds, and once gear is stable, the Ark Grid guide is your next damage tier.
