Lost Ark Rapport Guide: The NPC Gift Economy and Why It Pays
Rapport is Lost Ark's relationship system with NPCs — and it hands out real rewards (stat potions, cards, voyage unlocks). Here is how gifts, emotes, and coffee/tea actually work, and which NPCs to prioritize.
Rapport is one of Lost Ark’s most overlooked systems — a relationship meter with major NPCs that quietly pays out some of the best non-combat rewards in the game. If you have ever wondered why veterans gift random NPCs coffee, this is why.
What Rapport gives you
Raising an NPC’s Rapport level unlocks rewards that directly help your account:
- Stat potions (permanent small stat boosts).
- Card packs (cards feed the Card system, a real damage source).
- Voyage / sailing unlocks (island exploration, adventures, and gold).
- Currencies and cosmetics tied to that NPC’s storyline.
None of this requires combat — it is pure account progression you can do while queuing for raids or on an alt.
How to raise it
Rapport is built through three repeatable actions with each NPC:
- Gifts — each NPC likes specific gift types (some love fine wine, others books or flowers). Gift the right type and you gain far more than the wrong one. Wrong gifts actually cost rapport.
- Emotes — performing the emote an NPC enjoys (playful, respectful, etc.) grants a small bump; some NPCs have a daily emote.
- Coffee / tea / conversation — a small daily interaction that adds up.
Most NPCs also have a daily Rapport cap, so this is a slow-burn system — a few minutes a day across your roster.
Which NPCs to prioritize
Early on, focus on NPCs that unlock voyage content and cards, because those cascade into gold and power. The “best” targets shift by patch, but the rule holds: prioritize NPCs whose rewards open new activities (islands, adventures) over ones that only give a one-time potion.
Don’t ignore it
Rapport feels like flavor, but veterans treat it as a daily habit precisely because the card and voyage rewards feed the real economy. Spend a few minutes a day gifting your key NPCs and the account-wide bonuses compound.
Start simple: pick 3–4 NPCs whose gifts you can farm easily, give them the right gift type daily, and let the levels climb while you do everything else.
