THE FINALS XP-54 Guide (Season 12)
THE FINALS XP-54 guide: why this Light SMG tops the Season 12 meta, best ranges, attachment ideas, pros and cons, and which builds it fits.
THE FINALS XP-54 Guide (Season 12)
If you play Light and you’re not using the XP-54, you’re making life harder than it needs to be. It’s been the class’s flagship SMG for seasons now, and as of Season 12 it’s still sitting at the top of every serious tier list. Here’s the full picture.
What it is
The XP-54 is a Light-build submachine gun built for one job: winning close-to-mid range fights while you keep moving. It’s the gun behind the popular Cloak Recon setup (XP-54 or LH1, Cloaking Device, Gateway, Glitch Grenade, H+ Infuser), and for good reason.
Engagement range
- Sweet spot: 5 to about 20 meters. Inside that window it melts Lights, keeps pace with Mediums, and can out-trade Heavies who can’t get their gun around fast enough.
- Hip-fire is genuinely good. The cone is tight enough that you can secure eliminations around seven meters without aiming down sights, which keeps your strafe speed maxed — and strafe speed is a Light’s actual health pool.
- Past 25 meters you’re relying on luck. Don’t take those fights; reposition or swap to a longer-range secondary instead.
Attachment ideas
Prioritize whatever keeps the gun stable while you’re moving and spamming:
- Recoil control and stability first — you’ll be firing full auto in short bursts, and the pattern’s easiest to handle when it’s damped.
- A clean optic if the default irons clutter your screen. Part of the XP-54’s reputation is low visual noise: it doesn’t fill your screen with muzzle flash during long tracking fights, so keep it that way.
- Mag size helps offset the Season 12 nerf that dropped the ammo from 36 to 34 — one extra round in the mag is one extra elimination per reload cycle.
Pros and cons
Why it’s S-tier:
- Clean, readable recoil with a fast reset — you’re not fighting the gun between bursts
- Excellent hip-fire, so you keep full movement speed in duels
- High DPS for the class and forgiving to players with average tracking
- Works with basically every Light specialization: Cloak, Grappling Hook, Evasive Dash, Infiltrator
What holds it back:
- The 34-round mag (down from 36 this season) punishes dry-firing into three enemies
- Hopeless at long range — Kyoto rooftops and Vegas open ground are not your friends
- Everyone else is also using it, so mirror matchups come down to who peeks better
Who should run it
Any Light main, at any skill level. If you’re new to the class, the XP-54 is the most forgiving entry point — it rewards basic movement discipline instead of demanding perfect aim. Aggressive flankers love it because it converts a successful flank into a guaranteed kill. Even Infiltrator players who prefer the info game run it because True Sight plus a fast-killing SMG is a nasty combo on a Cashout push.
